Double Lake Recreation Area will temporarily close to the public from Jan. 1, through early spring 2017, according to Sam Houston National Forest District Ranger Warren Oja.
“Double Lake is transitioning to a new concessionaire and the closure time is needed to assess and complete any needed repairs or maintenance such as site furnishings, signs, bathroom fixtures and any required inspections,” Oja said. “We apologize for such short notice and it is unfortunate the popular recreation area has to close at the end of the year, but the concessionaire will need time to train personnel and to become familiar with the recreation area.”
The closure includes camping, day-use, the entire mountain bike trail and the section of Lone Star Hiking Trail within Double Lake Recreation Area.
Oja suggests campers visit Cagle Recreation Area in Sam Houston National Forest, Ratcliff Recreation Area in Davy Crockett National Forest, Huntsville State Park or Livingston State Park both operated by Texas Parks & Wildlife Department.
