On November 14, 2016, Deputy Ashlie Johnson with the Walker County Sheriff’s Office (who are members of the Montgomery County Auto Theft Task Force (MCATTF)), conducted a traffic stop on a trailer, displaying what was determined to be a stolen license plate. Shortly thereafter, Corporal James Thrailkill and Detective Glen Welter arrived to assist Deputy Johnson. MCATTF Detectives conducted a follow up investigation into the stolen license plate and confirmed that the trailer in question was in fact also stolen out of Harris County. Detectives further learned that the stolen trailer was purchased from a Jason Baughman out of Montgomery County. With the assistance of the Texas Department of Public Safety Aircraft Division, Detectives were also able to fly over the suspect’s property, located in the 17000 block of Dogwood Drive, Conroe Texas. MCATTF Detectives observed several other trailers parked on the property, and were able to confirm that several of these were also stolen.
On December 1, 2016, MCATTF detectives obtained a search warrant for the suspect’s residence. Members of the MCATTF, accompanied by: Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Property Division, Narcotics Unit, SWAT, Texas Department of Public Safety (TXDPS), and The National Insurance Crime Bureau executed the search warrant. Upon making entry and securing the property Detectives recovered several stolen items in addition to 160 grams (5 oz.) of methamphetamine and $3200.00 cash.
The following suspects were arrested for possession of a controlled substance and transported to the Montgomery County Jail without incident. The theft investigation is still ongoing and could result in further criminal charges being filed.
Walker County Sheriff Clint McRae would like to thank his staff and the other agencies involved for a job well done.
