Voter Registration Deadline Tuesday for November Election

The Walker County Voter Registration/Elections Department is reaching out to voters countywide to inform them that the voter registration deadline to vote in the upcoming general election is Tuesday, October 9th. If you are not registered to vote and plan on voting in the Gubernatorial Election in November, please come by the Walker County Annex, Room 114 and get registered. Please keep in mind that Monday, October 8th, is a county holiday and will re-open at 8:00 am on Tuesday.

Additionally, any voter 65 years of age or older on Election Day, who has a disability, who is confined in jail, or who will be outside the county during early voting hours and on Election Day, may apply to vote by mail. Those wishing to vote by mail may do so by submitting an application to the Early Voting Clerk before Friday, October 26th at 5:00 pm.  Interested voters are encouraged to contact the Early Voting Clerk’s office at (936) 436-4959 to inquire about additional information for the vote by mail process. Please note that qualifying voters who have already applied to receive an annual ballot by mail will automatically be mailed a ballot for the November election; there is no need for those voters to reapply.

Election Day will be Tuesday, November 6th. Early Voting will begin Monday, October 22nd thru Friday, November 2 nd, at the Walker County Annex.  During Early Voting, polls will be open from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm with the exception of two extended twelve-hour days on Tuesday, October 23rd, and Tuesday, October 30th, when polls will be open 7:00 am – 7:00 pm.  There will also be weekend voting at the Annex from 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm on Saturday, October 27th, and Sunday, October 28th.

Walker County is conducting joint elections with multiple entities that increase the complexity tremendously, not only for the Elections Department but also for the voters.  We want to encourage ALL voters to know what is on their ballot in order to be an informed voter.  For instance, if you are registered in the City of Huntsville, you will be voting a 4 page ballot that includes 32 charter amendment propositions.  If you have any questions about a specific proposition, please contact City Secretary Lee Woodward at (936) 291-5403 or visit their website at http://huntsvilletx.gov/826/CharterElection. All Walker County voters will have other entities on their ballot based on which precinct the voter is registered in.  Please call the Walker County Elections office at (936) 436-4959 for specific ballot information.

Sample ballots are posted under the “Current Elections” tab on the Walker County homepage (www.co.walker.tx.us) along with additional election information.  We will continue to post additional updates and information regarding the upcoming election. Voters may also contact the Walker County Voter Registration/Elections Department at (936) 436-4959 with any questions regarding voter registration and the upcoming election.
