Rafael Cruz, father of U.S. Senator Ted Cruz, addressed local Republican Party members at their annual Republican Roundup meeting.
Party chair Linda McKenzie introduced all current elected officials in attendance as well Republican and non-partisan candidates for the upcoming election.
The catered event, held at the Walker Education Center on Thursday evening, was attended by dozens of locals along with many candidates on the upcoming November ballot. Both McKenzie and Cruz emphasized the importance of voting for Republican candidates in local, state, and national races.
Tax Assessor Diana McRae addressed the crowed, outlining upcoming changes in election law that go in to effect next year and reviewing a sample ballot. She encouraged voters that choose to vote “straight ticket” ballots to remember to vote in non-partisan races such as school board, city council,for city charter amendments and other races that aren’t included when voting a straight Republican or Democrat ballot.
Cruz remained after the meeting’s conclusion for photo ops and to answer questions from attendees.
