Candidates for the office of Walker County Republican Party Chair for the March 2016 Republican Primary. Candidates are listed in the order they will appear on the ballot.
Relevant experience: I worked for 2 Sheriffs as a dispatcher in the 1990’s at the Walker County Sheriff’s Office and I’ve been married 21 years to Shane Loosier who has been a peace officer working for elected Sheriffs/Constables throughout his career in Law Enforcement, so I understand the dynamic of candidates and elected officials. I am 2nd Lt. and Finance Officer of the Civil Air Patrol Sam Houston Composite Squadron.
Relevant Education/Training: I graduated from Sam Houston State University with a Bachelor of Music in Music Therapy and a minor in piano. I’m also a Certified Piano Technician through the American School of Piano Tuning. I started my business, Madilene’s Piano Tuning & Repair in 2004 which grew into a successful full-time business after 2 years. I have been a member of the Conroe Symphony Orchestra for 18 years and I am the Principal Violist and Piano Technician for the Symphony. I’ve also served as Personnel Manager and Assistant Librarian and served on several committees. I am part of the worship team at my church as a member of the orchestra and vocal soloist. I also sing and play viola for multiple other venues in and around Walker County.
Previous political involvement or activities: I grew up in a Christian Conservative Republican family and have always voted Republican. I have helped with 3 local campaigns and participated in Campaign Management School in Austin. I’ve participated in Precinct, County and State Conventions. I am the immediate past President of the Walker County Republican Women serving from 2013-2015. Before that, I held positions of Vice President and Secretary. During my time as President of the WCRW I doubled the membership to almost 100 total members and brought in dynamic speakers like Benghazi survivor Kris “Tanto” Paronto, Republican Party of Texas Chair Steve Munisteri for the Republican Roundup raising several thousand dollars to support candidates and First Lady of Texas Cecelia Abbott for a wonderful luncheon.
Please give us your view of the County Chair’s primary duties: The County Chair presides over the Executive Committee of the Republican Party of Walker County and is the official spokesman. The chair is to perform the duties required by statute, the RPWC bylaws and the rules of the Republican Party of Texas. The Chair also works closely with the Tax Assessor/Elections Clerk in conducting the Republican Primary.
If elected, what do you hope to accomplish in the next 2 years as County Chair? We need to grow our local Republican Party membership and involve our party members in events and activities to promote the Republican ideals and showcase our Republican candidates at election time. The County Chair is the face of Walker County and the go to person for Republican elected officials and candidates choosing to run for office, be it local, statewide or national races. As Chair, I will be impartial and not show favoritism when conducting the business of the party or any other situation regarding candidates in a primary or runoff election. I want to ensure an environment that is neutral and welcoming so those who have not been in a campaign before, can ask questions and learn what is required of them.
What would you like for voters to know about you and/or your campaign? While serving as President of the WCRW I developed good working relationships with local elected officials as well as state and national officials. In organizing our events, I demonstrated that I could be a leader and get people involved and to volunteer to work together for a common goal and be successful. I am a Lifetime Member of the Walker County Fair Association and I am 2nd Lt. and Finance Officer of the Civil Air Patrol Sam Houston Composite Squadron trained in leadership skills. I’ve been married to Shane Loosier for 21 years and we have 3 sons. Tommy, 18 (Currently serving Active Duty with U.S. Air Force Security Forces as an Airman First Class), Brandon , 16 and Dillon 13 who both attend Alpha Omega Academy and we are members of First Baptist Church in Huntsville.
