Hospital District Board Gets New Leadership

Hospital District Board elects new Chair and Vice-Chair.

by Walker County News Today Staff

Only minutes after being sworn in to office as one of two newly elected members of the Walker County Hospitial District’s Board of Managers, Anne Karr was elected to serve as Chair of that board.   Karr’s election to the position of Chair ousted long-time board chairman Bob Hardy.  The only other new addition to that board, Dr. Curtis Montgomery, was elected to serve as Vice-Chair.  Board member Jerry Larrison retained his position as the board’s Secretary.

Friends, family, and other onlookers were present to witness Karr, Montgomery, and Larrison take their oath of office;  outgoing board member Susan Mott administered the oath.  All three won their seats in the recent November 8th election.

Routine business matters discussed and voted on during the meeting:

  • Voted to make changes to bank signature cards to add new board members and remove outgoing members.
  • Approved payment of indigent care bills.
  • Approved the monthly financial report.
  • Approved payment of monthly bills.
  • Approved recording budgeted indigent care expenses of $576,664.
  • Heard a report from HMH regarding predictions for future health care costs and reimbursements

During discussion of paying the district’s monthly bills, Hardy attempted to change the compensation of the district’s office employee.  After an audience member called a “point of order” and pointed out that employee compensation was not listed on the posted agenda Karr stopped any further discussion on the issue and advised that the issue could be put on the next meeting’s agenda.

The board was updated on the possible sale of the hospital with Hardy saying that the prospective purchaser is continuing with their due diligence study with an expected time from of about two months for completion of that study.

None of the documents discussed and voted on were available for public review prior to the meeting on the district’s website or at the meeting.

The next Hospital District meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, December 21st at 7:00 PM
