French Announces Candidacy for Walker County Constable Precinct 2

Native Walker County resident, community volunteer and local law enforcement officer John French announced his candidacy for Walker County Constable Precinct 2. French will seek the Republican nomination in the 2016 Republican Primary.  With 23 years of combined professional public service, leadership and law enforcement, French brings a wide range of knowledge to the position.  French says his campaign is focused on Security, Protection, Visibility and Departmental Fiscal Responsibility.  “As your Constable I will bring my experience and dedication to the position to create a responsive, efficient and effective relationship between the Constables’ Office and the public.”

Part of French’s campaign is educating the public on position.  French stated “Constables are the oldest law enforcement position in the world”.  In 1836, the State of Texas mandated by Article 5, Section 18, of the Texas Constitution: a Constable shall be elected in each Justice of the Peace Precinct.  A Constable is a licensed and commissioned Peace Officer in accordance with Texas Code of Criminal Procedure.

French is a graduate of Huntsville High School, a Certified TCOLE Intermediate Police Officer and Certified SFFMA Advanced Firefighter. He has served various positions with in the Huntsville Police Department including, Officer, Detective, Corporal and is currently a Senior Patrol Officer.  French also serves the community as a member of the Huntsville Fire Department starting as a firefighter and promoting through the ranks where he currently is the 2nd Assistant Fire Chief.  French also serves the Precinct 2 area with the Crabbs Prairie Volunteer Fire Department as a Firefighter / EMT and is a member of the Executive Board as Treasurer of the Department. French worked for Texas Department of Criminal Justice for 15 years prior to going to work for the City of Huntsville.

Throughout his career French has obtained many certifications including: TCOLE Instructor, TCOLE Firearms Instructor, Basic Criminal Investigator, Texas Department of Public Safety Advanced Auto Theft Investigation, SFFMA Fire Instructor II,  Incident Command System, Field Training Officer, Glock Firearms Armorer, Ag Rescue, Remington 870 Armorer, Emergency Terrorism Concepts, Arson Detection, Texas A&M Fire Training, Texas Department of Health – Radiological Emergency Preparedness, Danielle Dawn Smalley Foundation – Pipeline Safety, Wharton County Junior College – Total Quality Management, Sam Houston State University – EMT Basic.

French has numerous achievements from his career and community involvement.  Just a few are: Huntsville Item Reader’s Choice – Officer of the Year 2011 and 2015,  Huntsville Fire Department 15 Years Dedicated Service Award 2015, Huntsville Police Officers Association – Patrol Officer of the Year 2009, Walker County Citizen of the Year Nominee 2008 and 2009, Huntsville Fire Department Heroism Award 2006 – Training Award 2005 – Accountability and Ladder Committee 2004 and Jaws of Life Rescue Green Cross Awards 13 (Lives Saved), TDCJ-ID 10 Years of Service Award 2002, Transportation Safe Driving Award 2003 through 2006 and was the Regional Bus Rodeo Champion for 2006.

French says he will plan and implement efficient budgeting, while improving services and utilizing existing resources to provide quality service to the citizens along with serving the Walker County Justice Court Precinct 2 as Bailiff and one of four designated Bailiffs for the 12th and 278th District Courts.  “As Constable, I look forward to continuing to serve the public in law enforcement while working to provide quality services for our residents.”

French is an active member in the Huntsville Police Officer Association, Texas Municipal Police Officers Association, Huntsville Fire Department, Crabbs Prairie Volunteer Fire Department, Walker County Firefighters Association, State Firemen Fire Marshall’s Association, Annual Livingston Fire School Instructor 2003 through current, Walker County Fair Association Lifetime Member and Committeeman, East Texas Firemen Fire Marshall’s Association, Walker County Republican Party and Fort Sam Houston Wounded Warrior and Family Support Center – Donor.

He and his High School Sweetheart Kari French have been married since 1997.  They have two sons, Jacob 17 and Jeffrey 15 that attend Huntsville High School. I will work hard for the citizens of Walker County as the Precinct 2 Constable. It will be an honor to serve you. Thank you for your support and the faith that you will have placed in me.”

 The Republican Party Primary Early Voting begins February 16th through the 26th.

The Primary Election will be held on Tuesday, March 1, 2016.
