TOM DEYOUNG TO SEEK WALKER COUNTY PCT 1 COMMISSIONER REPUBLICAN NOMINATION
Huntsville, TX – Tom DeYoung, long-time resident of Walker County and fiscal conservative, announced today that he will seek the nomination for Walker County Precinct 1 Commissioner in the Republican Primary to be held in March 2016.
Mr. DeYoung retired from TDCJ after 28 years of service. Since that retirement, he has been working as a maintenance supervisor at a local private school. He also has previous work experience in the construction industry. Tom and his wife, Cathy, currently operate Mock Creek Farm in Walker County which specializes in locally grown agricultural products including grass-fed beef.
DeYoung says that he believes that preparing Walker County for the future should be a priority. “The Commissioners’ Court is in charge of the County budget; they should be maximizing every dollar they receive from the taxpayers of this county. Our Commissioners must be better stewards of the resources we have before asking the taxpayers for more money in the form of higher taxes. We need to look ahead and plan for growth versus just reacting to growth by raising taxes. ”
Tom and his wife Cathy, a public school teacher, have 2 children: Josh DeYoung (age 25) and Jessica DeYoung (age 20). They are members of University Heights Baptist Church.
