Council Sets May 7 Election Date to Fill Vacant Seat

The Huntsville City Council voted Tuesday to establish Saturday, May 7, as the date of the special city election to fill the at-large council seat vacated by Andy Brauninger, who was elected mayor in a Dec. 12, 2015 run-off.

The candidate elected to fill Brauninger’s spot will serve the remainder of his term, which expires with city elections in November.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. May 7 at the Walker County Annex, 1301 Sam Houston Ave., Room 101. Early voting will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, April 25, to Monday, May 2, and from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 26, and Tuesday, May 3.

The city will accept applications for a position on the May 7 ballot from qualified candidates until 5 p.m. Monday, March 7.  Anyone interested in running for the vacant seat may pick up a Candidate Packet from  the office of the City Secretary at City Hall, 1212 Avenue M, or on the City web website.
