Wet Weather, Heavy Traffic Contribute to Busy Weekend For Emergency Personnel

New Waverly Firefighters and Walker County EMS respond to a number of motor vehicle accidents in southern part of County. One killed in a rollover accident on I-45.


New Waverly, Tx March 9th, 2015
Emergency Responders in the New Waverly were kept busy this weekend with a number of motor vehicle accidents as well as several unrelated fire and medical emergencies.
New Waverly Fire Crews and Walker County EMS responded to 5 separate motor vehicle accidents since Friday morning, with one accident turning deadly Saturday afternoon when two cars collided on I-45 near Park Road 40, causing one to flip and land on its roof.
New Waverly Firefighters and Walker County EMS were first to arrive and found the driver critically injured, trapped upside down in the severely mangled vehicle. Firefighters forced entry into the car with the Jaws of Life and were able to extract her within less than 10 minutes but her injuries were too severe and she was later pronounced dead. The Huntsville Fire Department sent a unit to assist and Troopers with DPS are conducting the investigation into this fatal crash. Several other injuries were reported from the series of accidents this weekend, but none appear to be life threatening.
In addition to these crashes, New Waverly Firefighters responded to 4 fires including one which burned two vehicles and threatened a home before it was brought under control. New Waverly Firefighters cross-trained as Emergency Medical Technicians and Paramedics also responded to a number of medical emergencies over the weekend. New Waverly FF/EMTs respond to all medical and trauma emergencies throughout the district and average 2-3 calls for service each day.
