Wet Weather and Heavy Traffic Contribute to Another Round of Accidents for New Waverly Firefighters

Fire crews respond to 5 motor vehicle accidents on Friday, traffic backs up on freeway and spills off into New Waverly.

For the third weekend in a row, New Waverly Fire and EMS crews responded to several motor vehicle accidents throughout the area, along with a number of unrelated fire and medical emergencies.

New Waverly Firefighters responded to 5 separate motor vehicle accidents on Friday, with most occurring in the afternoon as a combination of wet weather and heavy northbound traffic led to major delays on I45.

As the wrecks continued, the backup spilled into Montgomery County and travelers began diverting to Hwy 75 leading to near gridlock conditions in the City of New Waverly. Walker County Pct. 4 Constable Gene Bartee and staff worked throughout the afternoon to keep traffic moving through town and most of the backup was cleared by 6 pm.
