Storms, Possible Tornado Wreak Havoc in New Waverly and Phelps Community

New Waverly Firefighters responded to a number of storm related calls for service. No serious injuries reported.

New Waverly, Tx April 16th, 2015
Heavy thunderstorms rolled through Walker County Thursday evening, leaving a path of destruction across parts of Walker County. Just after 6 PM, New Waverly Firefighters responded to the first of many calls they would receive over the course of several hours, when high winds blew an 18 wheeler off of Hwy 75 near FM 2793 just north of the City of New Waverly. The driver of the truck was not injured but heavy wreckers had to be called in to upright the truck and trailer.

Within minutes of the first call, reports of a possible tornado and more damage began coming in from the Phelps Community as the storm tracked northeast through the area. A father and son were initially trapped in their home off FM 2296 when a large tree fell on the home, essentially splitting it in half. They were freed after a few tense minutes but fortunately were not injured.
