Walker County Sheriff Clint McRae advises:
On Thursday, July 30th at approximately 9:16pm, Deputies with the Walker County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to what was later determined to be a shooting incident, after receiving a 911call from a gunshot victim in the 100 block of Fm 247 in the northern portion of Walker County.
Officers arrived shortly thereafter, and began performing first aid to a white male victim who had suffered a gunshot wound from a small caliber firearm in the upper thigh near the groin area. Deputies quickly applied a tourniquet above the wound on the victim in order to reduce bleeding. Moments later the victim was turned over to EMS and was air lifted to a hospital in Houston where he remains in serious but stable condition. EMS advised that the actions taken by deputies in quickly applying the tourniquet is more than likely what saved the individ ua ls life.
Also on scene was a deceased white female who had suffered what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the upper abdomen. This investigation is still underway with the autopsy currently being performed by the Montgomery County Forensics Office. The names of the victims in this case are not being released at this time due to investigators still attempting to make contact with next of kin.
