Paul Davidhizar, the headmaster of Alpha Omega Academy, a private Christian school in Huntsville, defeated retired educator and small business owner John S. Little on Saturday in the race for at-large Position 1 on the Huntsville City Council.
The seat was vacated by Andy Brauninger, who was elected mayor last November. Turnout was low in the one-position election, with only 1,253 votes cast.
Davidhizar won almost 57 percent of the vote in Saturday’s contest. Davidhizar picked up 530 votes in early voting for a total of 711 votes. Little earned 438 votes in early voting and 542 total votes.
Davidhizar will hold the at-large council seat until November, when the position will once again be on the ballot.
