New Waverly, Tx March 27th, 2015
New Waverly Firefighters were called Friday evening to a structure fire on Hawthorne Rd off FM 1375 East of New Waverly. The crew on duty at the New Waverly station was on scene in less than 5 minutes, reporting heavy fire in a barn behind a residence on Hawthorne. Firefighters were able to quickly contain the fire, while one of the fire crew drove the owner’s tractor out of the barn, preventing it from burning as well.

Two Engines, a Tanker and a District Chief responded from the New Waverly Station, along with another NWVFD Engine from the Phelps Community Station. New Waverly crews were assisted by Huntsville and North Montgomery County Firefighters and the fire was fully extinguished in just under two hours.

There were no injuries, and while most of the owner’s equipment was saved, the barn did suffer heavy damage. The home owners reported that they had been mowing with their riding lawn mower and had parked it in the barn just a couple of hours before discovering the fire around the mower spreading to the rest of the structure.
