High winds and boat traffic make for rough conditions swamping at least one boat, Rescue Boat takes on water but is able to rescue stranded boaters.
New Waverly Firefighters were dispatched to reports of a sinking boat on the North end of Lake Conroe Saturday afternoon. Firefighters responded with New Waverly Rescue Boat 71 and quickly realized the reason for the rescue. High winds had wave heights at an estimated 4-6 feet in the area of the FM 1375 bridge.
The rescue crew was able to reach the victims and their sunken boat in an area bounded by the Sam Houston National Forest, but not before the rescue boat itself took in water due to the rough seas. The victims were transported back to the Cagle Recreation area in the National Forest, and although shaken, they were reported to be uninjured.
At this time all units are clear of the scene, but the lake remains very rough. Boaters are advised to use caution should they decide to venture out this afternoon.
