Huntsville ISD Continues Improvement Efforts with Additional Administrative Changes

In keeping with the recent redesign of the district’s current practices to help cultivate positive relationships with students, and to continue moving Huntsville ISD forward to becoming a high-performing organization, Dr. Howell Wright, Superintendent of Education, announces additional administrative changes that will take effect immediately.

Huntsville Elementary School Principal Koren Nicks will take over as administrator of the Huntsville ISD Disciplinary Alternative Education Program, or DAEP. Nicks, a veteran educator and administrator for the district, will oversee the DAEP which currently operates at each of the three secondary campuses. Dr. Wright strongly desires to restructure the existing DAEP to include academic alternatives to provide more choices for all students to better serve their educational needs. After a period of careful evaluation and monitoring of the program, Nicks will help lead those future efforts.

Dr. Jana Bethel, current assistant principal at Huntsville Elementary School, will step up and serve as Interim Principal for the campus following Nick’s new assignment. Jack Herrington, an assistant principal at Huntsville High School, will move over to fill the assistant principal vacancy created by Bethel. Herrington has previous administrative experience at the elementary level and should provide much needed support to Bethel and the campus team. An assistant principal position will be posted at Huntsville High School to fill Herrington’s void.

The district recently concluded its search for a Director of Secondary Teaching and Learning, and plans to make a recommendation to hire during the Board of Trustees regular meeting scheduled for Thursday, February 18, 2016. Additionally, the district is currently seeking a Bilingual and ESL Coordinator to coordinate programs and educational opportunities that will help meet the needs of the district’s Bilingual, ESL, and Migrant students. Any interested individual possessing the posted qualifications is encouraged to apply.
