HISD Temporary Common Bus Stop Designated for Evacuated Areas

HISD Transportation Designates Thomas Lake Volunteer Fire Department as Temporary Common Bus Stop for Evacuated Areas

Walker County has issued a Recommendation for Evacuation for several areas of Walker County near the Trinity River to include: Greenrich Shores; Sterling Island; Bell & Ford; Deep River Plantation; Bear Creek Subdivision; and any other low-lying areas that are already affected by rising water. Huntsville ISD Transportation has determined that our buses cannot safely go into these identified evacuation areas. Therefore, the district has designated the Thomas Lake Volunteer Fire Department as the temporary common Bus Stop. We will require an adult to pick up the students at the Bus Stop in the afternoon. Any student, registered to ride or not, will be picked up in the morning from that Bus Stop, but parents of unregistered riders should make contact immediately with HISD Transportation to complete the required bus registration over the phone (936-435-6800) and provide us with information for the adult who will receive the rider in the afternoon. We will also take care of bus route changes over the phone due to ANY evacuations and/or temporary residential displacements.

Approximate Bus Stop times for Thomas Lake Volunteer Fire Department Common Bus Stop:

  • AM Pick-Up is 6:15 AM (riders should be @ there 5 min prior) &
  • PM Drop-off is approx. 4:25 PM

For other information or assistance in evacuating, call the Walker County Emergency Operations Center at 936-435-8035.
