During the Regular Monthly Meeting of the Huntsville ISD Board of Trustees on Thursday, December 17th, Samuel W. Houston Elementary 2nd grade student, Alyvionia Winn was recognized for having her holiday artwork selected as the cover for the official holiday greeting card for the district.
Alyvionia’s art was selected from a number of other pieces submitted from all across the district. Her design was a cheerful snowman with a Hornet buzzing on the end of his carrot nose! Samuel W. Houston Elementary art teacher, Allison Walton encouraged her students to incorporate some school spirit in their pieces this year and it paid off. The piece inspired the card’s theme and message, “”May your holidays be something to BUZZ about! Warmest wishes to you during this glorious season of wonder! Happy Hornet Holidays!!!” The Board presented Alyvionia with a framed copy of her artwork, the official HISD greeting card, and a photograph of her holding the original artwork as a token of appreciation for her artistic talent and participation in the contest. Alyvionia’s family was provided an extra copy of her photograph along with a bundle of cards as a keepsake.
This year, the district also recognized the other finalists from the Top 5 and thanked them for their participation in the contest. The finalists were: Ryenn Batchelor – SHE 3rd grader; Carlena Blanco – HHS 9th grader; Darrin Washington – HHS 9th grader; and Alexis Pedra – HHS 12th grader.
