Forest Service Closes Multi-Use Trail in Sam Houston National Forest

The multi-use trail in the Sam Houston National Forest is temporarily closed due to torrential rains and flooding that damaged sections of the trail.

“Our area experienced significant rainfall in April, May and June and the impacts of the rainfall have been quite evident on motorized trail systems,” said Sam Houston National Forest Ranger Warren Oja. “Due to safety concerns for trail users, all routes of the multi-use trail are temporarily closed until an assessment can be completed.”

Oja said once the assessment is made, segments of trail that are safe to ride will be reopened.

“We know this is frustrating for the public and it is frustrating for us as well. If we can get a few days of dry weather we will be out making repairs,” he said.
