Beginning at 7 p.m. Monday, December 3, 2018, southbound State Highway 19 to Interstate 45 southbound will be closed to place bridge beams for the new southbound State Highway 19 to Interstate 45 southbound direct connector bridge.
The State Highway 19 U-turn and Southwood Drive between the State Highway 19 ramps will be closed when the beams are being placed over the roadway. Beginning at 8 p.m. Tuesday, December 4, 2018, Interstate 45 northbound and southbound and State Highway 19 southbound ramp to Interstate 45 will be closed to set beams for the new southbound State Highway 19 Bridge over Interstate 45. All northbound Interstate 45 traffic must exit at Park Road 40. All southbound Interstate 45 traffic must exit at the Veterans Memorial Exit Ramp. Beginning at 7 p.m. Wednesday, December 5, 2018, Southwood Drive will be closed to set beams for the new northbound State Highway 19 Bridge. The U-turn and Southwood Drive will be closed while the beams are being placed over them. The State Highway 19 northbound ramp from Southwood Drive will also be closed while the beams across the U-turn and Southwood Drive are being placed.
Message Boards will be placed one week prior to the closure and detour signs will be placed along the detour routes to alert and guide traffic through the detour. A portion of this work was scheduled in early November, but was delayed due to weather. All of this work is weather permitting.
This project will widen Interstate 45 to six lanes and will replace the State Park Road 40 bridges and southbound State Highway 19 Flyover. During the 3-year project, multiple lane shifts and relocation of traffic will take place at various times to accommodate construction activity. Interstate 45 and SB State Highway 19 will also be closed at various times for the safety of the traveling public and construction workers. The reconstruction of Interstate 45 will take place in two major phases. Phase 1 is underway and will include the addition of Veteran’s Memorial Bridge, northbound State Highway 19 Bridge and a new southbound State Highway 19 flyover. Phase 2, will include replacement of the Park Road 40 bridges. Johnson Bros. Corporation, a Southland Company was awarded the construction contract for the amount of $116,878,722.89.
