Southbound State Highway 19 to the I-45 southbound bridge will be closed Thursday, Nov. 8, from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m., according Bobby Colwell of the Texas Department of Transportation.
This closure is necessary to install bridge beams for the new southbound SH 19 bridge flyover. The SH 19 U-turn and Southwood Drive between the SH 19 ramps will be closed in order to install the beams. Southwood and SH 19 traffic will be detoured iduring the work.
The new bridge is a part of the massive project that will widen IH-45 to six lanes and also replace the State Park Road 40 bridges and southbound SH 19 Flyover. This is just one of many multiple lane shifts and relocation of traffic that will continue until the three-year project ends. Colwell said such closures are for they safety of both workers and the public.
This work is part of Phase One of I-45 reconstruction, which involves SH 19 and a new Goree Brdige. Phase Two will replace the Park Road 40 bridge and improve access to Huntsville State Park.
