Registration Underway for Annual Adventure Run

by Emily Schulze

The “Great Muddy Escape” is not only a fun way to raise awareness about living a healthy and active lifestyle; it’s also a fundraiser benefitting the local non-profit organization, Huntsville Family YMCA.  The annual adventure race, held in Huntsville, Texas, has something for everyone. For the extreme adventurer, there are the culverts, the mud pits, and the wall. For fitness buffs, there’s the challenge of a 5K mud-run through obstacles while being timed. For families, there is the family course, where the obstacles are smaller, but the fun is just as grand. For the out-of-town travelers, it’s a great way to explore a new destination, check out new sites, and have some fun.

Taking place on Saturday, March 4, 2017, at General Sam’s Off-Road Park located at 224 Bishop Road, the run involves a dozen or so obstacles including mud pits, tire mountains, the “Shawshank Tunnel,” and the “Penitentiary Wall.” With three “courses,” each with a different level of difficulty, the event is fun for everyone regardless of athletic ability. Participants receive a Great Muddy Escape t-shirt, bottled water, BBQ lunch, and other “contraband”.  Winners will also receive medals, which are distributed for the 5K and 2M course top males and females. And don’t worry about getting muddy, General Sam’s offers hot showers. Be sure to bring your own towel and soap.

Those who wish to register for the Great Muddy Escape can do so online at www.greatmuddyescape.com. Although packets can be picked up on race day, they will also be available from 5-7:30 pm on Friday, March 3 at the Texas Prison Museum and will include a chili cook-off for participants and volunteers.
