UPDATE: New Waverly ISD has announced classes are cancelled through Tuesday.
Huntsville ISD has announced classes are cancelled through Wednesday.
SHSU has announced that classes at the Huntsville and The Woodlands Center campuses are closed Monday and Tuesday except for essential personnel.
Huntsville Head Start has cancelled classes for Monday.
As heavy rains resulting from Hurricane Harvey continue to pound Walker County, the Walker County Office of Emergency Management is reporting road closures across the county. Throughout the day OEM has announced closures of several major roadways including State Highway 30, FM 1791, FM 2693, and FM 1374 and others along with numerous subdivision streets, city streets, and county roads.
The City of Huntsville has reported power outages on the east side of Huntsville: “Falling limbs and trees have taken down some power lines locally. Additional outages are being reported this afternoon on the east side of Huntsville. Entergy supplies most electrical power in the city limits and is notified and working to restore power. To report new outages, call 1-800-ENTERGY.”
OEM previously reported outages in Elkins Lake, Spring Lake, portions of the Avenues, and in the Fish Hatchery Road area. Power crews have been seen throughout the area working to restore power.
Those living along the Trinity River are urged to take precautions as the river is expected to enter minor flood stage by 7:00PM tonight at 134′.
