Activities include auctions, raffle tickets, dining

Staff and volunteers at the New Waverly Public Library are busy with preparations for their largest fundraising event of the year. The dinner and auction, being held on Saturday November 4th, are expected to help fund library activities for the upcoming year. Raffle ticket sales will add to the night’s total.
The event kicks off at 5:30 with the opening of the silent auction. At 6:00 PM a chicken-fried steak dinner will be served followed by a live auction that is scheduled to begin at 7:00 PM. Drawings will also be held to determine winners of the raffle ticket sales.
According to Library Director Kameron Sutton “the community has been very supportive. This is our largest fundraiser of the year. Our organization relies on donations and volunteers to maintain operations.”
Raffle items for this year’s event include a gun safe and two rifles. Anyone interested in purchasing raffle tickets is welcome to stop by the library, located at 9372 State Hwy 75 S in New Waverly; tickets will also be sold at the event. Raffle tickets are $5 each or 5/$20.
Meal tickets are also being sold in advance: $10 for adults, $5 for children age 8 and under.
Sutton reminds those attending that they will need to enter New Waverly Elementary School through the doors at the back of the campus ; the front doors of the school will not be unlocked for this event. The parking lot and grass-area parking will be available for attendees.
The New Waverly Public Library is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that relies heavily on donations and volunteers. While Sutton says the City of New Waverly has been very generous with donations to library operations, this fundraiser, along with smaller fundraisers throughout the year, are vital to keeping the library running smoothly. When asked about volunteers, Sutton was very clear: “We would not be able to open to the public without our wonderful and hardworking volunteers. We rely on them to assist with all areas of the library.”
The library is open Monday-Friday from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM and offers books in print, e-books, dvd, wi-fi, and computer access. The Texas Room that offers genealogy resources, the Reading Room, the Teen Area, the Children’s Area, and the Community Room offer places for quite reading or group events.
Children’s programming for all ages is available. From after-school activities to summer programs, volunteer youth librarian Chanel Maybin works hard to make sure that children’s activities are engaging and fun. Check the library’s website for a full calendar of events.
