Texas Businesses Invited to take Parking Survey to Impact Accessible Parking Law Recommendations

The Texas Governor’s Committee on People with Disabilities (GCPD) invites Texas business owners to participate in an online survey on accessible parking for customers with disabilities. Why may this issue be important to you and your business?

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, Americans with disabilities have an estimated $175 BILLION in discretionary spending power. This is four times the spending power of tweens (age 8-14 year olds), a demographic much sought after by businesses. Additionally, a study by the Open Doors Organization found that more than 75% of people with disabilities dine out at restaurants at least once a week, spending more than $35 billion annually.

House Bill 1317 (84th Regular Session) charged GCPD, in coordination with disability advocacy groups and disability-related organizations, to create a report on the status of accessible parking within our state for persons with disabilities. The Committee wants to hear from the business community on what YOU think are the major issues, needs, and concerns on accessible parking for your customers with disabilities. This online survey will gather information to help shape future policy recommendations. The survey is anonymous and takes approximately 15 minutes to complete. It will be posted until midnight October 16, 2016.
