Dee Howard easily won a run-off election Saturday for the Huntsville City Council At-Large Seat 2. She joins a body her late father, Percy Howard, Jr., once served on.
Howard topped Bill Bayne, an Elkins Lake resident and retired project manager, 433 to 286, with all but 102 votes being cast in early voting. The run-off was required when none of three candidates on the Nov. 6 ballot received more than 50 percent.
Howard, a Huntsville native, credited the legacy of service left by her father for her decision to inter public life, commenting often during her campaign that she wanted to “give back to the city that has given so much to me and my family.”
Howard returned to the city after a career that included more than 25 years of public sector senior management, work as a non-profit director and working on state and community boards and commission. She has a master’s degree in human resources.
The City Council will certify the results after the holidays and she will be sworn in.
