Jamie Matthews, the City of Huntsville’s Visitor Center Coordinator, was recently recognized as a Certified Tourism Executive. Successful completion of the program to earn the honor was a highlight of the annual Travel and Tourism College offered by the Texas Travel Industry Association (TTIA). The certification is a three-year endeavor followed by a capstone project for which Matthews created a concierge book featuring area hotels, restaurants, and entertainment venues.
Matthews has worked at the Visitor Center for over seventeen years, serving at different times as a Travel Counselor, Adventure Guide, and Visitor Center Manager/Coordinator. Matthews also holds a certification from the Texas Association of Convention and Visitor Bureaus (TACVB) as a Texas Destination Marketer, and said she found that this educational process was just as rewarding. Mayor Andy Brauninger shared the good news with the community at the July 5 City Council meeting.
