Sam Houston Statue Officially Welcomed Christmas

The Sam Houston Statue and Visitor Center has officially welcomed the Christmas season with their annual Holiday Open House that was held on November 29. The Christmas tree was up, there were holiday treats and the gift shop was open late to help guests do some holiday shopping. Santa even stopped by to take pictures and ask for last minute Christmas lists.

Mayor Brauninger attended the evening and thanked Director Kimm Thomas, Visitor Center Coordinator Jamie Matthews, and the rest of the Statue staff and volunteers for their hard work and dedication to expand Huntsville’s Visitor Center Facilities. Kimm Thomas announced that over 79,000 people signed the guest book in 2016 so far!

Dalene Zender was honored with the 2016 Warm Welcome Award for her many years of service on the HOT (Hotel Occupancy Tax) Board.

The SHSU Art Department was awarded the 2016 Tourism Partner Award for their animated promotional video for the Statue. You can view the video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jze2dDQ3qgM.
