City of Huntsville Mayor Andy Brauninger and H-E-B Huntsville will be participating in the Souper Bowl of Caring. The food drive runs from January 5th through February 4th, 2018.
Mayor Brauninger will be present to help raise awareness with H-E-B from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, January 6. H-E-B is located at 1702 11th Street.
“H-E-B continues to be an excellent partner to our community and I’m looking forward to seeing many of our residents on Saturday,” said Brauninger. “Please come by and say hello this weekend, if you can, but don’t forget donations will be accepted through Super Bowl Sunday.”
The Souper Bowl of Caring is an annual event that allows H-E-B customers to purchase pre-packaged bags of groceries as donations, according to H-E-B Area Community Coordinator Nan Price.
“All of the items collected will provide meals for local families,” Price said. “This is part of a national campaign that churches, scouts, businesses, and others participate in this time of year, leading up to the NFL Super Bowl.”
In 2017, the Souper Bowl of Caring gathered over $10.1 million during the big game. In Texas, H-E-B raised $1,171,296 during the 2017 Souper Bowl of Caring.
“H-E-B is committed to helping end hunger in our communities. Having Mayor Brauninger join us in kicking off the campaign this year here in Huntsville is exciting. Come by your new H-E-B and learn how you can help the Souper Bowl of Caring, Mayor Brauninger, and H-E-B “Tackle Hunger” in Huntsville,” said Vicki Sides, Unit Director, H-E-B Huntsville.
One of the fundamentals of the Souper Bowl of Caring is that 100% of everything collected goes directly to charity. Every donation helps Souper Bowl of Caring empower youth, unite communities, and generate food and resources at a critical time of year when charities are reporting a decrease in volunteers and funding. A contribution to the Souper Bowl of Caring is an investment: For every $1 donated, Souper Bowl of Caring says $19 is generated for charities in local communities across the country.
