Up to $2,500 in scholarships
Texas students care about the environment, and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality wants to hear about how they take care of Texas. Budding videographers have the opportunity once again to enter the annual Take Care of Texas Video Contest.
The competition is a fun way for students to learn about protecting the environment and come up with creative ways to share this knowledge with others. The contest is open to students throughout Texas in grades six through twelve, whether they attend a public school, private school, or are home-schooled.
Videos should be 30 seconds long and portray positive ways Texans can help keep our air and water clean, conserve water and energy, or reduce waste. Videos should include the slogan “Take Care of Texas. It’s the only one we’ve got.”
Three high-school students will win scholarships from $500 to $2,500 and three middle-school students will win GoPro camera packages, courtesy of Waste Management of Texas, Inc.
The contest deadline is Dec. 14, 2018, and the public will have the opportunity to pick their favorite videos from Jan. 10 through 24, 2019. After the public narrows down the entries, a panel of TCEQ staff and representatives from the sponsor will choose the first, second, and third place winners from each of the grade groups. Winners will be announced Feb. 28, 2019.
